Summary: "The United States of America tragically imprisons more of its citizens than any other nation in the world. Not counting the social cost of damaged families and communities, incarceration costs taxpayers an average of $30,000 per year per inmate, yet government spending for primary education amounts to less than $12,000 per year per student. The majority of those incarcerated in the U. S. are young people held for non-violent crimes. Young males of color are jailed in significantly disproportionate numbers. This film documents one man's efforts to stem this tide. This is the story of Lemuel LaRoache, poet and social worker known in his community as LIFE the Griot."
